RWTH Aachen University and BMW Group sign contract for endowed chair "Quantum Information Systems"
Milestone in the field of quantum computing: BMW Group supports research at RWTH with 5,5 million euros.
In the future, the BMW Group will support research in the promising future technology of quantum computing at RWTH. To this end, the BMW Group is providing up to 4,5 million euros over six years for professorships, equipment and staff. In addition, one million euros will be made available for a networking fund that supports industry-related research projects. The joint goal of RWTH and the BMW Group is to close the gap between basic research and the applicability of quantum computing in industry.
Quantum computing uses quantum mechanical effects to accelerate computing power and thus has great potential to revolutionize a wide variety of application fields. In the new chair "Quantum Information Systems" at the RWTH, application cases of the BMW Group will be considered, for example software integration and industrialization concepts will be created. In the future, the new chair will be established in the university landscape of Forschungszentrum Jülich.
