Application of the BaSys-4 System in the Forestry Industry
The "BaSys4Forestry" project uses concepts from Industry 4.0, in particular the "Basic System Industry 4.0" (BaSys 4 for short), to create a digital twin of the forest. The interdisciplinary project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research with a funding volume of 1 million euros since the end of 2021.
In order to consistently obtain a digital image of the forest, private forest owners usually lack the necessary capital and technical know-how. This is where BaSys4Forestry steps in and creates a digital image of the forest to gain more data sovereignty over the forest areas and distribution of the timber stands. The owner can decide for himself which data he wants to use and to what extent information from the digital forest is passed on to service providers. Thus, services for forest management and timber sales can be linked.
