This year, the RWTH Aachen University’s ICT Profile Area again participated in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The MWC is the largest conference and trade fair worldwide in the fields of mobile communication and networked technologies. Between February 22 and 25, research activities and projects currently conducted in the Profile Area were presented at the conference booth of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Other institutions represented at the booth included technology startups and companies from the region and the federal state.

The importance of the NRW companies' and RWTH's participation in the fair was highlighted by the visits by Garrelt Duin, NRW minister of the economy, and Thomas Geisel, mayor of the City of Düsseldorf.

This year, the ICT Profile Area presented selected research projects from the key research areas Smart City and Internet of Things (IoT). This included a live demonstration of an intelligent street lamp which, apart from having modern communication capabilities, is able to monitor traffic in real time and provide parking occupancy information. Based on this as well as other research activities it was possible to establish new contacts with potential future partners in collaboration.
